Shepherd's Homes Leasing
Shepherd's Homes I, II, and III
Having developed a unique, very successful partnership with the Prince William County Community Services, Good Shepherd Housing Foundation is able to provide safe, affordable housing with a wide range of supportive services for 15 chronically mentally ill single adults in Shepherd Homes I, II, and III. Over the years we have ended the homeless cycle for many disabled citizens. Residents are provided the psychological and financial supports needed to stay healthy and reach their highest level of personal development.
In 2007, Good Shepherd Housing Foundation in partnership with the Prince William County Community Services submitted a grant to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development to partially fund a program to provide permanent supportive housing for 7 to 8 persons with mental health disabilities and developmental disorders.
If housing is difficult for working poor families you can image what it must be like for persons with mental health disabilities. This program fills a high priority need in our Prince William Community. The Shepherd Homes Leasing Program provides permanent, affordable, supported housing in scattered site leased apartments. Participants pay 30% of their income for rent. A full range of supportive services are provided by the Prince William County Community Services. Today we are serving ten single adults with chronic mental illness in ten leased apartments. Some residents are Veterans; all were chronically homeless, some for over 15 years. This program, with the Community Services team of mental health providers, has proven to be a very successful "housing first" type model.
Serving the Prince William Community since 1989.
